Medicinal Plants Effective in the Prevention and Control of Coronaviruses

Objective: Coronaviruses often cause acute complications in the respiratory system with cold-like symptoms. A number of them, such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East (MERS) Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) have killed thousands people caused epidemics pandemics. This review study aims to investigate most common medicinal plants Iran introduce their natural products antiviral effects on coronaviruses strengthening immune order prevent control them. Methods: In this study, a search was conducted national international databases Web Science, Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, Google Scholar, SID, MagIran IranMedex by using keywords COVID-19, Coronaviruses, SARS, MERS, SARS-CoV-2, PEDV both Persian English for studies published until 2020, finally 51 articles were selected. Results: There are 10 members family Coronaviridae among which Ginger, Galangal, Cinnamon, Fennel flower, Grapefruit (peel), Purple coneflower effective COVID-19. Elder, Ginseng, Aloe vera, Milkvetch, Shirazi Thyme boosting preventing viral diseases. Conclusion: Inhibiting replication viruses is mechanism drugs, but compounds usually counteract it disrupting key proteins virulence factors viruses.
